The Selecter

The Selecter were one of the key bands of the ska revival in the late 70’s and one of the few racially integrated bands on the scene. Vocalist Pauline Black, one of the very few women in the 2-Tone scene and often referred to as the Queen of Ska, wrote about sexism, racism and social issues across The Selecter discography. Debuting with the AA side of The Specials single ‘Gangsters’ in summer 1979, before quickly releasing their follow up single ‘On My Radio’ which reached No. 6 in the UK charts. Their debut album ‘Too Much Pressure’ was released in February 1980 and reached No. 5 in the UK charts. The album included two further hit singles ‘Three Minute Hero’ and ‘Missing Words’. Celebrate The Bullet followed in 1981. Chrysalis Records released new half-speed mastered versions of The Selecter’s first two albums in 2021-2.
