Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine

Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine

Carter are South London's Jim Bob and Fruitbat. In 1988 their ferocious, regret-filled debut single Sheltered Life came out to little fanfare, but 1989's Sheriff Fatman, established their agenda, to spin punk-pop with social comment. Their debut album followed in 1990, the greater-spotted 101 Damnations. These were stories told in the darkness on the edge of town. A 10/10 in the NME, 30 Something cast its mind further, to consumerism, racism & alcoholism. It went Top 10 & was certified Gold. In 1992 The Love Album went to number one. Selling 200,000 copies, it spawned top 10 hit, The Only Living Boy In New Cross. That summer Carter headlined Glastonbury. In 1993 they toured worldwide the ferocious Post Historic Monsters, their third Top 10 album. Raw-throated & uncompromising. A drummer, Wez, was added in 1994. Single Glam Rock Cops rounded out their B-sides collection Starry Eyed & Bollock Naked. Their meatier, beatier next album, Worry Bomb was another Top 10 smash in 1995. Carter bargained their way out of major-label captivity with a greatest-hits, Straw Donkey. In 1996 A World Without Dave was born. mournful, mature and compact. Touring was now as a six-piece. On the ironically named CARTERBREAKAMERICA tour, Jim Bob & Fruitbat agreed to call it a day. A final studio LP I Blame The Government appeared in 1998. This was followed by the self-explanatory LIVE! & later, Sessions. In 2007 big reunion shows occurred before a last farewell in 2014.
